HOW TO DECIDE FABRIC WIDTH FOR A GARMENT OR HOME TEXTILE ITEM

HOW TO DECIDE FABRIC WIDTH FOR A GARMENT OR HOME TEXTILE ITEM:

When we think about fabric consumption for a garment or home textile item,  a question arises in our mind immediately. What should be the width of the fabric to be used in garment or home textile item. The decision of correct width for a garment or home textile items directly influences the cost of product.  If we make the fabric in different widths to avoid fabric waste, a new problem creates for us.  Due to different fabric widths, the yardage required per fabric width is reduced.  If yardage per fabric width gets less than minimum order quantity, the fabric cost rises up. The problem does end here.  The next problem create in processing of the fabric.  If the different fabric widths dyes in one colour,  the shade variations among different fabric widths occur due lot variation. It is well known fact that two lots of same shade do not match to each other 100 ℅.  The other problem of minimum order quantity also comes into play. If required quantity is less than minimum order quantity,  the dyeing cost is increased.
Now we select the minimum number of fabric widths to make given item and calculate the waste ℅ in term of money for a given item. The waste% is added in fabric price per meter. Now the fabric cost of given item is determined
Now we select the different fabric widths to avoid waste of the fabric and calculate the fabric cost for a given item.
The fabric cost by using minimum fabric widths and the fabric cost by using different fabric widths to avoid waste are compared to each other.  The lower fabric cost is selected.  Any incorrect decision during deciding fabric widths may be reason of heavy loss of money to manufacture.  You may loss the orders too
