PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBRES:
Physical properties of polypropylene fibre are given in below table:
CRYSTALLINITY OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBRE:
The degree of crystallinity of polypropylene fibre normally ranges between 50%-65%. It depends upon processing conditions. The crystallization of the polypropylene takes place between glass transition temperature and the equilibrium melting point .
Dyeing affinity of polypropylene fibres:
The dyeing affinity of fibres gets affected by both chemical and physical properties. The fibres having polar functional groups in their molecular repeat units get dyed more easily.
“Since polypropylene molecular chains do not have polar functional groups, the dye molecules do not get able to attract to the fibres chemically”.
The fibre surface doesn't absorb the dye molecules strongly because of their hydrophobic characteristics. The poor absorbency of the polypeptide results in the form of very poor dyeing affinity.
