Sometimes weft yarn gets absent for a short length near the selvedge of the fabric. This kind of defect is termed as a short pick. See below graphic.
The problem of a short pick in the fabric occurs when the technician does not select correct loom setting according to weft count. The incorrect loom degree of the exit of the receiving gripper causes short pick. The incorrect loom degree of weft detector also causes short pick problem. The incorrect selection of sensitivity of weft detector results in the form of the short pick. Low gripping pressure of receiving gripper is also responsible for short pick problem. The early release of the weft yarn at the receiving end causes short pick in the fabric.
