SATIN AND SATEEN FABRICS:
The satin and sateen fabrics are widely used in garments and as well as home textiles. These are lustrous fabrics. These fabrics show good softness and draping properties. These fabrics are woven with cotton, silk and polyester both. These are not balanced fabrics. The EPI is always greater than PPI satin fabrics. The yarn quality of the warp is always kept superior to the weft. The sateen fabric always has more PPI than EPI. Weft quality is kept superior to warp in sateen fabrics. The polyester satin/sateen looks more lustrous than cotton satin/sateen.
Now a question arises, why does satin/sateen fabric look more lustrous than plain or twill fabrics. The satin/sateen fabric gets lustrous just because of the float length of the weave. It has a bigger float length than plain or twill fabrics. This big float size helps to reduce broken surfaces in the fabric. The reduced broken surface results in the form of the increased lustre of the satin/sateen fabric.
