SHEDDING MOTION, PRIMARY LOOM MOTION, TYPES IF SHEDDING MOTION

SHEDDING MOTION ( PRIMARY LOOM MOTION) 

The shedding motion is a primary loom motion.  Primary loom motion means weaving is not possible without shedding motion by manual process or mechanical process. 

The shedding motion is the first primary loom motion. " The process of diving the warp sheet into to layers by manual or mechanical process is called shedding motion. The layers are formed by heald shafts. Since we know that the ends get drawn through the eyes of heald wires. When the some of the heald shafts get raised and rest of the heald shafts get lowered, a V - shape passage in front of reed for weft insertion is formed. This V - shaped passage for weft insertion is called shed. Please see below figure:



Your can see in above illustration how the shed is formed. The red colour ends are forming top layer of the shed and black colour ends are forming bottom layer of the shed. The position of the ends changes after picks insertion into shed according to design. If we weave plain fabric, the each end changes it's position after every pick insertion. You can see in the figure clearly that red and black ends are looking in alternate order. When the next shed formation will take place, the black end will be in raising position and red ends will be in lowering position. 
There are three kind of shedding motions available. The shedding motion is selected according to the fabric design to be woven. 

1 - tappet shedding. 
2 - dobby shedding. 
3 - jacquard shedding.
